Habitat for Humanity

Description and Purpose:
In 1995, DeSales High School became one of the first charter high schools in Louisville to be a member of the Campus Chapters and Youth Programs of Habitat for Humanity. For over a decade, DeSales students have been actively involved in the local efforts of Habitat for Humanity of Metro Louisville. Habitat for Humanity is based on the belief that Christian discipline must be lived out in practical ways that help to lift burdens from the shoulders of others. Habitat for Humanity focuses its ministry on housing, which is considered a fundamental need and right of humanity.

Through their volunteerism and educational efforts, students elevate their social conscience and promote the Christian values which are at the core of the DeSales High School mission. The chapter is lead by a Senior President and Junior Vice-President/President Elect. Student volunteer hours will satisfy DeSales High School service program requirements.

Periodic times during the school year, DeSales’ students participate in the traditional activity of constructing and rehabilitating homes for the less fortunate of Louisville. The Habitat for Humanity club also partners with the Blanket Louisville project and collects new and gently used blankets for donation to local homeless shelters and other community agencies.

Eligibility:
The Habitat for Humanity club is open to all students; however, a student must be 16 years of age to participate in an on-site home build project.
