Music of the 60’s & 70’s (Mr. Taft)
The time in this Immersion will be spent looking at how the past has shaped music and how music has shaped the past. Musicians from Elvis, to the Beatles, to Led Zeppelin will be examined.
A “Chop” Above the Rest! (Ms. Cecil)
Explore the culinary world! Students will be given the chance to taste a variety of dishes through experiences in restaurants and in the kitchen. An “Iron Chef” competition will round out the week and give the students the opportunity to show off their new skills.
Raise Your ACT Score (Mr. Knight)
Students will have the opportunity to maximize their ACT score by optimizing the use of their TI calculator. The week will be spent writing and practicing programs to help students improve their ACT Math score.
The Spirituality of Star Wars (Mr. Zoeller)
The time in this Immersion will be spent viewing and reflecting on the spirituality that is present in the Star Wars series of movies. Students will discuss the myths & legends, power & corruption, and good versus evil.
The Culture of Swordsmanship (Mr. Recktenwald)
In this Immersion participants will acquire basic competence in the modern Olympic sport of foil fencing. They will be given the opportunity to compete in a single-elimination tournament. The activities throughout the week will teach students honor, sportsmanship, strategic thinking, and precision.
All England Club (Ms. McAnally)
Experience a slice of English life through the game of cricket and horseback riding. Each member of the group will learn the rules and technique of cricket. They will also have the chance to experience horseback riding and the full English experience is never complete without tasting English food and drink. Tea and scones, anyone?
Golf School (Mr. Reed and Mr. Joyce)
FORE! Participants will receive golf instruction from PGA Professionals. They will have the opportunity to play two local golf courses, discuss the horticulture at golf courses, look at golf course design, and explore the history of golf.
Rambo Warrior (Mr. Moore)
Examine the military forces, both past and present, in the United States. Visit museums, the National Guard, and Fort Knox. Students will meet real members of the armed forces and see what goes on behind the scenes at Fort Knox with an over-night trip to the military base.
Investigating the Criminal Mind (Ms. Texas)
Explore the judicial system by participating in hands on activities such as creating a sketch of a suspect; learn how to evaluate crime scene evidence, and how to look for clues and tips. They will also visit the courthouse to sit in on a trial.
Keep It GREEN! (Ms. Pohlmann)
The students will be given the opportunity to become environmentalists for the week. Participants will be involved in on-site water analysis to see what really is lurking in our water. They will also visit Jefferson Memorial Forest to investigate native and foreign species of plants the effects that foreign plants are having on local habitats. They will also be given the opportunity to evaluate their own “footprint” on the environment.
Tour of Louisville (Mr. Medley and Mr. McAnally)
Take a walk through the streets of downtown and see the city in a whole new light! Visit the Kentucky Derby Museum, West Main Street, the new Arena and Museum Plaza sites, and The Little Loom House to better understand where our city has come from and where it is going.
Shakespeare Behind Bars (Ms. Breen)
This Immersion will introduce students to the works of Shakespeare with a twist! Students will have the opportunity to work with inmates at the Luther Luckett Correctional Complex in LaGrange, KY and The Shakespeare Behind Bars program. Students will be lead through performance activities so that they can experience Shakespeare and appreciate the values that the inmates receive from his works.
Math is FUN! (Ms. Byrne)
This Immersion will demonstrate the mathematical relevancy associated with many of the activities that students already enjoy. The students will discover the math involved in designing a putt-putt course, planning and scoring in bowling, the velocity of a ball fired from a paintball gun, and calculating the speed of a go-cart and hitting a baseball.
Journey to the Center of YOUR Faith (Sr. Cash)
Do you know the history of your faith? Explore the history of the Catholic Church in our area. Visit the Kentucky Holy Lands, historical churches around the city, and the St. Benedict’s Monastery in Ferdinand, Indiana.
Ghostbusters (Mr. Burke)
Examine the history of Spiritualism in Louisville. Visit local cemeteries, Waverly Hills Sanatorium, a “haunted farm”, and experience a “staged” séance. Meet local ghost hunters and discuss the so called haunted locations.
New York, New York! (Mr. Strothman and Ms. Powers)
Students will enjoy this four day adventure to the big apple! On this trip they will tour the well-known sites of NYC including Times Square, Central Park, The World Trade Center, Rockefeller Center, and much more!
Under the Sea Adventure (Mr. Wisman and Ms. Barnett)
Embark on a four day journey to Big Pine Key, Florida to snorkel in the coral reefs, kayak off of the Gulf Coast, and star gaze on the beach! This is a once in a lifetime chance to explore the sea hands-on!
Puerto Rico – La Isla Encantada (Ms. Trigg and Ms. Bartlett)
This five day trip will take students to the beautiful island of Puerto Rico! They will tour the historical city of San Juan, venture into the rain forest, and enjoy the magnificent beaches of Puerto Rico.
London (Mr. Dodrill and Mr. Gilbert)
This seven day over-sees expedition will take students to London, England. While in England students will take in the historic sites of London like Big Ben, Piccadilly Circus, Stonehenge, and Buckingham Palace. A U.S. passport is required for this trip.
