Orange Recognized as Official School Color Board Ratifies Existing Tradition
Who’s there? Orange! Orange Who? Orange you glad I am now an official school color?" It’s official! After nearly forty years of being used as part of the school’s color palette, the DeSales Board of Directors approved adding the color "orange" to "brown & white" as an official school color. DeSales High School alumni on the Board were in full support of this addition. Board Chair Steve James '82 commented, “It is time to finally legitimize orange as a school color since it has been in use since the late 60’s or early 70’s”. The step was taken to bring the issue in front of the Board after careful consideration was given to what students, parents and supporters wear to school events, what colors are present throughout the school and in the gym, as well as the ubiquitous presence of orange in stationary, logos, and other print materials. Moreover, when surveyed, the student body overwhelmingly preferred orange to any other color. Existing traditions regarding color will remain intact. School President Doug Strothman commented, “Items of tradition such as the school song will not be changed. We want to honor the long-standing tradition of Brown & White while adding what our students and fans prefer, orange. This is simply a step in the initiative to update the branding of our school”. The recognition of orange as "official", he added, merely ratifies what had already become customary and traditional in its own right. Posted February 26, 2008 |
