Britt '04 Named SCAC Player of the Week
Following a career-high effort and another double-digit performance two days later, Centre College senior basketball player Thomas Britt, '04, has been selected as the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Men's Basketball Player of the Week for games played for the week of Jan. 21, 2008. Maguire '07 Earns Honors
Sean Maguire '07 was named Kentucky Weslyan Football "Special Teams Player of the Year". Sean was named special teams player of the game twice this season for his punting. As a true freshman, he had 18 punts inside the opponents 20 yd line. Sean averaged over 35 yds per punt for the season for the Panthers.
Alumnus Receives Award for Innovative e-Health Service
The Kentucky Department of Corrections (DOC) and the agency's medical director, Dr. Scott Haas, DeSales class of '84, received Health IT Innovators Awards at the recent Kentucky e-Health Summit in Lexington.
The e-Health Summit was held in Lexington and presented by the Kentucky e-Health Board and the Cabinet for Health and Family Services. The awards recognize advances in the implementation and day-to-day use of electronic medical records (EMR) in the healthcare workplace. (more...)
"Herr" Knoop To be Honored
Former faculty member and alumnus Rick Knoop '74 will receive the Language Matters Award at the annual meeting of the American Association of Teachers of German on Nov. 17 in San Antonio. The award recognize's Rick's work to achieve outstanding success in getting students to speak German through creative methods and his extracurricular efforts organizing study abroad experiences for his students. Rick, a member of the faculty at St. Xavier High School, was inducted into the DeSales Hall of Honors in 2007.

Exhibit to Feature DeSales Artist
The work of DeSales alumnus and painter Alan Zoeller ('61) will be on display in Louisville next month. Starting August 2, the Artemisia Restaurant and Gallery is having an art show to showcase 19 of Alan's oil paintings. The showing runs through October, 2007 - visit the Gallery at 620 E. Market Street. Alan has recently supported DeSales with the donation of two works of his, including this 41" by 29" framed piece commemorating the school's 50th anniversary (right). Both pieces can be currently seen hanging in the Advancement Office.
Cahill Earns Big East Honors
University of Notre Dame senior Chris Cahill ('03) has been named the BIG EAST men's soccer goalkeeper of the week for the week ending Sept. 2, 2007. Cahill made four saves in the Irish's 2-1 overtime victory against No. 1 UCLA on Friday, Aug. 31. This is the third such honor for Cahill, who has also been named the BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week once during each of the last two seasons. (more...)

Class Note: Craig Joins Tachau Meek PLC
James Craig ('97) recently joined the law firm of Tachau Meek PLC in Louisville. Craig, a Catholic U. and Vanderbilt University School of Law graduate, has based his litigation practice in Louisville since he was admitted to the bar in 2004. He focuses on complex commercial litigation and regularly represents plaintiffs and defendants in state, federal, and bankruptcy courts across the country. James is also active in the community, serving on his church's leadership and finance committees and on the Vanderbilt Alumni Chapter's steering committee.
Kyle Leach ('05) Receives Golf Honors
Bellarmine sophomore Kyle Leach (Louisville/DeSales) has been named to the 2006-07 All-Great Lakes Valley Conference Men’s Golf Team for the second consecutive year, as voted on by the league's coaches. In ten tournaments this season, Leach has four top 10 finishes and eight finishes in the top 20. This past fall Leach won medalist honors after shooting a seven-under-par 137 at the Riverman Invitational. Kyle also made the cut for the final round of the AT&T Kentucky State Amateur Championship on June 15, 2007, held at Big Spring Country Club in Louisville. (more...)
Belcher ('07) Named Runner of the Year
The 2007 All-Area 3 Small School Track Team was announced on June 3, and the honor list includes several DeSales athletes, including recent DeSales graduate Kyle Belcher as the "Boys Runner of the Year." Kyle also competed at the State Meet in Lexington and finished 8th in the 400M dash, 12th in the 200M dash and 100M dash. Congratulations to Kyle and the rest of the track team on a great season!

Burns ('03) Gives Valedictory Address to Bellarmine Grads
Bellarmine University presented honors and awards to the Class of 2007 on Thursday, May 10 at an awards dinner held on campus. Among the highlights of the evening were addresses from the valedictorian, Raymond Burns, III, and the two salutatorians, Sarah Todd and John Escosa.
Lucy Burns, Raymond's mother and President McGowan's administrative assistant for the last nine years, conferred Raymond's diploma at the graduation ceremony. "It reflects the family atmosphere at Bellarmine," Lucy Burns, 50, said. "It's not like I saw him every day because he was so busy, but people would come into the office all the time and say, 'Oh, I saw your son here today or there today.' People recognize each other here in a special way."
Raymond graduated with a degree in chemistry and will spend a year as a volunteer teacher in Micronesia with WorldTeach before starting graduate school at Cornell University. (Courier-Journal article, May 13, 2007)
DeSales Grads Join the Police Force
DeSales proudly congratulates Robin Skaggs ('02) and Robert Perry ('03), who graduated from the Police Academy on October 20th. Skaggs will be working with the U of L police Dept. while Perry will move south to work with with Bowling Green Police Department.
Alumnus Celebrating 20 Years in the Navy
On October 1, 2006, First Class Petty Officer John Ryan Jr. ('69) will complete 20 years of dutiful service in the US Navy. In August, 2003, he earned the US Navy Achivement Medal for service during the War on Terrorism. He then returned to Louisville in 2005 and will continue service in the Navy Reserve on Southside Drive in 2006. You may contact John at rockynavy@yahoo.com.
Having a Ball
Stefan Harpe ('05) participated in Kappa Sigma's "Ball Run", an annual fundraising event held the night before September's U of L/UK football game. The U of L fraternity headed out around 1 am towards Lexington and met up with UK's chapter of Kappa Sigma, where they received the game ball for their leg of the run back to Louisville. In 2005, the group carried the ball towards Lexington before handing it off and staying for the game.
The Ball Run benefits the Disability Center located on the U of L campus. Kappa Sigma raises money each year to help disabled students get the assistance they need, whether it be access to books, taped lectures, assistance getting to classes, etc. There's Stefan proudly wearing his DeSales Wrestling shirt at the run!
