William I. "Shack" Shackleton was a strong student who lettered in football, basketball, baseball and track. He epitomized the DeSales ideal in working and playing hard while treating others with respect. As an alumnus, Shack was a major donor of time, talent and treasure at DeSales. He and several classmates started the 1971 Scholarship Fund, awarding over $60,000 in financial aid at DeSales. Shack lost his battle with lung cancer in 2002 at the early age of 48.

Knowing his love and commitment to DeSales, a few friends, business associates and his wife established the Shack Foundation in his memory. Over the past three years, the Shack Foundation has awarded over $30,000 in financial aid to DeSales students. The annual golf scramble continues to be the primary fundraiser to support the foundation's mission.

You may get involved in the Scramble by registering as a player, being a hole sponsor or just making a gift to the Shack Foundation.

Please call or e-mail Mike Saffran '71 (366-1346) or Gary Fleck '73 (366-8090) to be a part of this annual golf outing.
