DeSales Head Football Coach and ’86 graduate led team to 2A State Semifinals

Louisville, Ky. – St. Francis DeSales High School is proud to congratulate head football coach Mark Sander for being named this month as the “2005 Voice-Tribune/Republic Bank All-County Football Team Coach of the Year.”

Sander, in his fourth year as head football coach at DeSales High School, guided the Colts to a school-best 11 victories and the Class 2A final four in 2005. The school’s previous high of 10 wins was achieved in 1981, when DeSales finished as State Runner-up, and again in 1998.

“It’s an honor for me and an honor for DeSales to receive this recognition,” Sander said. “But the kids at DeSales are really the ones who deserve the credit.”

Sander is a 1986 alumnus of DeSales and was named to the Courier-Journal's All-State first team as a senior at DeSales. As a stand-out linebacker at U of L for four years, Sander was credited with 488 tackles and is still number one on the school's career list. He went on to play for the Miami Dolphins for four years and coached as an assistant for two years at Florida Atlantic before coming back to his alma mater.
