A stifling defense and a punishing ground game powered DeSales to a second straight 2A championship Friday, December 5th at Feix Field on the campus of Western Kentucky University.
In a title game that was a repeat of last year's match-up against Newport Central Catholic, the Colts dominated the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball, amassing 387 yards of offense (300 rushing) while allowing only 50 to NewCath.
After turning over the ball on the second play of the game, DeSales reeled off three scores in the first quarter and led 23-0 at halftime. A lone field goal in the second half finished out the scoring as DeSales routed the Thoroughbreds 26-0.
It was the third shutout by DeSales in five playoff games that saw the Colts only allow 13 total points. The defense ended the season allowing less than a touchdown per game (6.7 points).
Senior Adam Nord, who had three interceptions and a sack, was named the game's MVP.
DeSales becomes just the fifth Louisville school to win back-to-back football state titles and is the only to win the division 2A crown.
