Frankie Tharp, a senior at DeSales, has been selected as a finalist for the Fireside Essay Scholarship.
The national scholarship program, now in its 25th year, recognizes top religion students in Catholic high schools. The program is administered by Fireside Catholic Publishing. Only one student per school is eligible to apply.
In his essay, Frankie focuses on the importance of Catholic education for him growing up at St. Bernard. He cites the the extraordinary impact it has had on his life, writing that "my religious education has influenced everything I do," especially "the lessons of compassion, love, and discipline."
Frankie is one of 30 finalists, which includes students from 17 states and Canada. Only five will be chosen for the award. Winners will be announced in April, 2015, with each receiving a $1,000 scholarship.
Congratulations and good luck Frankie!
