World Language

The World Language Department supports the Vision Statement of DeSales High School by preparing students to be good global citizens.

The national standards for world language learning center around five goals: communication, cultures, connections, comparisons and communities.  To that end, we believe that language and communication are at the heart of the human experience.  We must equip students to communicate successfully in a multicultural American society and in communities around the world.

Languages open new worlds, introducing students to new cultures and ways of viewing topics as vast as global politics and cultural traditions and as finite as everyday interactions with non-English speaking peoples.  Through the process of world language education, students gain new perspectives and a wider range of understanding.
