Get To Know David Puckett '81

What did you do right after graduation?

I served in the United States Naval Reserve and graduated from the University of Hawaii. I traveled the world and moved to Treasure Island, Florida.

Please describe DeSales in three words.

Best Experience Ever.

Where are you and what are you doing now?

I am still living in Treasure Island. I have raised two amazing overachieving daughters and founded www.settle-now.com. I have a masters degree from Nova Southeastern University in Psychology - specializing in Conflict Resolution. I am working to complete my doctorate at the University of Florida

What do you like most about what you are doing?

I like helping society resolve conflicts, simply, less expensively and without the need for attorneys and courts.

What is your favorite memory about DeSales?

Wow, too many to list, but first and foremost the most giving and caring faculty and brotherhood for life!!

Who influenced you most during your time at DeSales?

Absolutely, there were at least a half dozen teachers who went above and beyond to see my potential and help mold me into the man I am today. I absolutely attribute my overall DeSales experience as having the most influence in me as the person I am today!

What classes and learning experiences did you have at DeSales that are beneficial to the work you do?

It's funny, my entire career has been in the high tech sector, and even in the late 1970s and early 1980s, DeSales was one of the first schools teaching computer science.

What is the most important thing you learned while you were at DeSales?

Brotherhood, Faith and one can do anything they set their minds to...just add hard work!

What advice do you have for current (or potential) students at DeSales?

The world is actually small, take the foundation and elements you are given at DeSales, and, in your own individual way, contribute to making the world a better place for all!

What do you like to do in your free time?

I like travel, boating, anything on, in or near the ocean, college football, teach, read and most importantly continue to create disruptive technology to make the world a better place!

Do you still stay in touch with any of your DeSales friends?

Absolutely, probably more than most, and considering I left Louisville in 1984 permanently, I still regularly talk to, have visits in Florida, and I visit a large number of my DeSales Brothers...FRIENDSHIP FOR LIFE!!

What’s next for you/where do you see yourself in five years?

I will never retire, until my last breath. I love the technology industry and read at least two books a week, mostly nonfiction technology and societal and economic trends books. When I sell my current company, my plan is to start a Masters and Masters Certificate Program in Artificial Intelligence and Dispute System Design. Hopefully, I will someday have grandchildren, enjoy family, and live on my boat!
