DeSales Hires New Head Basketball Coach

DeSales Athletics proudly announces Derek Ferch as the Colt’s new head basketball coach. Coach Ferch returns to DeSales after a year as head coach and admissions counselor at Louisville Collegiate School.

“There is no better home court advantage in the city than at DeSales. I can't wait for the Danger Zone to be rocking and the stands to be full. I want to put a team out there that will make the fanbase proud and keep them coming back,” Ferch said when asked what he is most excited about with his return. “The community is what makes DeSales great. It's small and close-knit…I love that no matter where we play in the city there will be people cheering wearing brown, white, and orange. In the two years I was here previously as an assistant, this community welcomed me and made me feel a part of it.”

Coach Ferch will also be a part of the school’s faculty & staff as the Academic Interventionist, working directly with students who need extra support in and outside of the classroom. As for his first order of business, Ferch is ready to get on the court.

“I'm ready to get to work with the guys coming back. May and June are really important for next season. Successful teams start building their identity with the way they work in the off-season. Luckily we don't have to wait long. I'm planning on a few hard weeks of practice to prepare for the summer games we'll play in late May and June. I want to see what leaders emerge and who are the TOUGH guys I can count on.”
