Wrestling Team Eyes Regional Championship

The wrestling season has begun with high hopes for a strong finish to the year. Returning are10 seniors, of which two are ranked among the top 5, three in the top 10, and two in the top 15, with an overall team ranking in the Top 10 (9th). DeSales has never been in the top 25, and that ranking includes all high schools in Kentucky.

Bolstered by a strong sophomore and junior class and the addition of several VERY athletic freshmen, we are looking forward to maintaining a presence in the wrestling arena in the future. DeSales is in our third year of having a Youth Wrestling Club, which finished second in the state last year. The Youth Club will be a feeder program for the high school, which will be an excellent resource for gathering experienced wrestlers as freshmen. Additionally, we earned our first-ever Regional Championship in 2018 and followed that up with a repeat in 2019. No we are working towards a Threepeat!!

Having high expectations means the team will have to up their effort in practice. The results have been positive so far this season, with several wrestlers going undefeated or only having one loss. One thing is sure, we have gained the respect of the wrestling community and placed a mark to hold DeSales as a team that will compete with anyone! Come out and support all of our seniors on January 8, 2020, for our last home meet on Senior Night!
