Fun Facts About Jamie Beach

Why did you choose to work at DeSales?

In my career, every school has been small and family-like with an emphasis on personal attention to students and families. I was ready to use my experience as a teacher to branch out and possibly work with students who need support outside of their daily classrooms to be successful. My position was posted in The Record and the role seemed to be a perfect fit for me!

I was born and raised in the south end of Louisville and still live here. Several of my nephews, uncles, cousins, and my brother all attended DeSales. DeSales focuses on educating the whole student by meeting them where they are spiritually, academically, and emotionally, and works with each individual to help raise them up so that they can reach their highest potential. That is part of my mission as a Catholic educator and as a former Catholic student at St. Thomas More, Presentation Academy, and Spalding University.

What aspect of your role do you enjoy the most?

I enjoy being part of the growth process of students and watching them mature academically, emotionally, and spiritually.

What is your motto or personal mantra?

Do unto others as you would have others do unto you.

What is your biggest achievement to date - personal or professional?

Personal- being married for 35 years and raising two wonderful adult children and surviving cancer twice.

Professional - Winning the Father McGee Award in 2011 and being a part of educating many young people.

What would others be surprised to find out about you?

I LOVE to cut several acres of grass using a riding lawnmower.

I was an ophthalmic tech for the Doctor’s Eye Institute for three years.

I love driving our boat out to the middle of the lake, anchor, and float in the water for hours at a time, just relaxing.

I helped my husband to finish the inside of an addition to our house, i.e., putting up drywall and finishing it, laying a hardwood floor and finishing it, painting, putting up trim and lights and ceiling fans, etc. I know how to use power tools, and I love it!
