Richard Schulten received his early education from the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth at Holy Name Parish before becoming a proud member of the first graduating class of DeSales High School in 1960. With the guidance of the Carmelite priests, Rich became the school’s first National Merit Scholar. He continued his education at Bellarmine College before graduating from the University of Louisville’s Louis D. Brandeis School of Law.
Following law school, Rich opened a private law practice before joining the Jefferson County Attorney’s Office in 1971. He served under four County Attorneys for more than 25 years and enjoyed a legal career spanning more than five decades. He was a member of the Kentucky Bar Association, South Park Country Club, and St. Thomas More Catholic Church. An avid sports and horse racing fan, Rich was also known for his generosity and hospitality, always willing to open his home to anyone in need.
In 1966, Rich married, and he and his wife raised nine children together. Rich passed away on June 17, 2022, at age 80, with his loving wife by his side. His legacy lives on through his family, his decades of service, and his historic place in the DeSales community as a member of its first graduating class.
